The campaign is off to a good start but there is a lot more to be done. We have to go deeper, isolate the theater of operations, stop Russian targeting, protect allies from drone strikes, and get the ships moving through the Strait of Hormuz to get the oil market moving again. These are big challenges; the campaign is a long way from being over.

That's part of it. The problem with any air campaign is you start with a target set. If that doesn't get you to the desired end state, you have to develop more targets. Generating targets is the whole key. Iran is a big country. One basic principle is you have to isolate the theater of operations to stop external support. There's a lot to be done before we can really give effect to what the president is calling for.

It should have been anticipated. The key is a better offense, not just defense. We have to be more effective at taking out the launch sites and stockpiles of drones. This is a big target set and we probably don't have the targets yet for it. It's important to intensify that part of the campaign.

It depends on how quickly it can be concluded. That's why channels should be kept open while pressure is put on Iran. The longer it goes on, the more opportunity there is for it to widen and escalate. It's really about the tempo of taking out Iranian capacities for drones and ballistic missiles. The more rapidly you can do it, the more effectively you can contain the escalation. It's in Iran's interest to escalate to make a mess and pressure the US to stop. So we have to take out their abilities to escalate.
