We are in a different inflation regime (3-4%) that started in 2020. The Fed has been wrong about inflation being transitory. A 5% interest rate is normal in this environment.

Inflation has not been below 2% in 62 months. The market is starting to realize this, which is why rates are going up.

Warsh would need 6 other voters to agree with him to cut rates, which is unlikely.

Stocks can go up with rising yields if rates are just following fair value higher. The idea that lower rates are always good is incorrect. Rates at 4.5-5% are not a problem; 6%+ would be.

Interest rates should approximate fair value. Too low creates bubbles, too high chokes the economy. Currently, rates are moving up naturally with inflation.

The biggest risk is AI failing to deliver on its promise. If AI replaces all existing software (Windows, Office, Zoom, Bloomberg), the spending is justified. If not, it's only worth $20/month and trillions have been wasted.

AI will replace all software with a single AI window. If it delivers, the spending is not excessive. If it doesn't, it's a massive overinvestment. He is optimistic it will deliver.
